Kazakhstan: The security implications explained

Troops are patrolling the streets of Almaty under government orders to fire without warning on protestors, amid demonstrations experts believe could lead to an uprising in Kazakhstan.

Russia has sent paratroopers to the former Soviet state, at the request of the country’s government.

Meanwhile, the UK has condemned orders from Kazakhstan’s authoritarian leader for security forces to fire on protestors, which have left dozens dead.
